2022 Grand Wagoneer vs Cadillac Escalade
Luxury SUVs deliver a premium experience that you can’t find just anywhere. When you’re behind the wheel of one of these vehicles, you feel an elevated sense of ease and refinement, as well as having the confidence of knowing that your SUV has the power and capability to back up its upscale design. In a competitive segment with a wealth of options on the market, it can become overwhelming to try to evaluate which luxury three-row SUV best fits your lifestyle. Here at Shively Motors, we want to help narrow down your search by comparing two SUVs, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer and the Cadillac Escalade. The Grand Wagoneer has made a splash as a newcomer in the luxury market, offering state-of-the-art technology, and best-in-class capability. The Escalade has been around for a number of years, and makes for stiff competition. Which vehicle will come out on top? Continue reading to find out.
2022 Grand Wagoneer Power & Handling
Despite its classic and elegant appearance, the Grand Wagoneer packs a punch when it comes to power and capability. Under the hood of all four of its trim levels, you’ll find the potent 6.4-liter V8 engine paired with an energy-conserving TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain has an output of 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, and 4-wheel drive is standard across the board. The Grand Wagoneer features the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension system, which makes everyday driving smooth and cushioned, while also providing up to 10.9 inches of ground clearance. In off-roading terms, that equates to 24 inches of water fording! Speaking of off-roading, the Grand Wagoneer also offers the Advanced All-Terrain Group which includes rugged equipment like chrome tow hooks, hill-descent control, and underbody skid plates.
2021 Cadillac Escalade Power & Handling
The Escalade has received a redesign for the 2021 model year, and one of the numerous changes to its design includes the addition of a second available engine. For the 2021 Escalade’s 5-trim-level lineup, the two engine options are the standard 6.2-liter V8 offering 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and the new 3.0-liter turbodiesel I6 with an output of 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. However, despite the extra boost of muscle that the diesel engine provides, the 2021 Escalade’s maximum towing capacity still trails that of the Grand Wagoneer by over a thousand pounds, coming in at just 8,200 pounds. Across the board, the Escalade is not particularly well-suited for challenging terrain the way the Grand Wagoneer is, but it does shine on paved roads in town and on the highway. The Escalade offers available four-corner air suspension that adds cushion against the pavement, and its massive size gives it a commanding road presence.
2022 Grand Wagoneer Features & Design
The Grand Wagoneer seats up to eight passengers, with either bucket seats or a bench in the third row. Nappa leather interior is standard, with upper trims getting upgraded to premium quilted Palermo leather, and real walnut wood accents. The dashboard features a standard 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with integrated navigation and wireless smartphone connectivity. There’s also a second touchscreen on the passenger’s side of the dash that allows them their own controls for media, navigation, and more. You can even opt for Rear Seat Entertainment displays that add two screens for the second row, where passengers can access their Amazon Fire TV account through the all-new Fire for Auto system. Additional features include a tri-pane panoramic sunroof, a front console cooler bin, an exclusive 23-speaker McIntosh sound system, acoustic laminated front glass, customizable ambient LED interior lighting, and power-adjustable massaging front seats with heating and ventilation for the first and second rows.
2021 Cadillac Escalade Features & Design
As mentioned above, the 2021 redesign has brought numerous changes to the Cadillac Escalade. Its front fascia has been updated, and features a tall front grille framed by two vertical LED lights. The Escalade is overall longer and larger than the previous model, yet still holds less rear cargo volume behind the third row than the Grand Wagoneer. The Escalade seats up to eight, with all but the base level trims offering real leather interior. The Escalade’s dashboard features a curved OLED touchscreen display, and a Head Up Display (HUD) that projects pertinent vehicle information right onto the windshield so that drivers can keep their eyes on the road ahead. Additional features include a rearview camera, a panoramic sunroof, massaging front seats, wireless smartphone charging, and an AKG premium sound system.
These three-row SUVs both strive to offer the best possible driving experience to everyone on board. Though it’s clear to see that they both bring a wealth of incredible features to the table, we feel that ultimately, the Escalade just can’t stand up to the power and capability of the Grand Wagoneer. We also appreciate the Grand Wagoneer’s extra storage space, higher towing capacity, and more comprehensive standard safety package.
